Booz Allen Hamilton and the Elizabeth Dole Foundation Team Up to Drive Local Support for America’s Most At-Risk Military Caregivers
The Elizabeth Dole Foundation (EDF) and Booz Allen Hamilton are teaming up on a transformative, first-of-its-kind data tool that will assist American communities to identify previously unseen and underserved military caregivers and find solutions to their top needs. The Community Caregiver Map, built on Booz Allen’s EpiMaps platform, will use data analytics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to identify where caregivers are and where they are experiencing the highest rates of poor health and wellness outcomes. Using advanced data science, the Map will even give clues to the factors that are driving those outcomes. The project is expected to provide an unprecedented, evidence-based look into the localized needs of military caregivers nationwide. The Map will be unveiled at EDF’s 4th National Convening with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, held on October 21st at the Capital Hilton in Washington, D.C.“For five years, Booz Allen has contributed its enormous talent and expertise to helping our Foundation determine how we can effectively address our hidden heroes’ biggest challenges,” said Senator Elizabeth Dole. “Now we are able to continue this great partnership with the Community Caregiver Map. This tool and its advanced data analytics capabilities will allow us to pinpoint communities where our help is most needed. I’m hopeful that through our work with Booz Allen, we can rescue our hidden heroes from the debilitating trappings of loneliness and isolation.”The Map will be an essential guide for EDF’s Hidden Heroes Cities program and its data will enable the Foundation’s team to work with city leaders and community-based partners to design locally relevant interventions for at-risk military caregivers. Now, communities will no longer have to rely on one-size-fits-all approaches to caregiver support. EDF and Booz Allen plan to pilot the data’s use in San Diego and San Antonio, Texas.“Our caregivers truly are Hidden Heroes,” said Dr. Kevin Vigilante, Chief Medical Officer at Booz Allen. “Incredible organizations like the Elizabeth Dole Foundation have drawn attention to their selfless efforts and provided invaluable support to these caregivers – but because they work quietly and anonymously to help their family members, they can be hard to identify and support. Booz Allen will use some our most advanced analytic capabilities and talent to help find these Heroes among us, so organizations like the Dole Foundation can support more of them.”The EDF-Booz Allen partnership will complement the findings of the Military Caregiver Snapshot, produced through a partnership between EDF and Purdue University’s Military Family Research Institute (MFRI), and funded with the support of Booz Allen. The Military Caregiver Snapshot integrates military caregivers’ survey responses into MFRI’s Measuring Communities tool, which compiles and presents data about military caregivers in ten key areas. The project builds on EDF and Booz Allen’s five-year partnership, which began with the firm’s support and facilitation of EDF’s Impact Forums—one of the Foundation’s first initiatives to focus and organize our coalition members to address military caregivers’ most urgent needs. Booz Allen has since helped shape the Foundation’s strategic plan, which served as the basis for the Military and Veteran Caregiver Experience Map, created by the Foundation, Philips and the Department of Veterans Affairs. In 2019, EDF and Hiring Our Heroes launched a national taskforce to address the need for improved employment opportunities for military caregivers—one of the top caregiver issues identified by EDF’s Dole Caregiver Fellows. Booz Allen serves as a prominent member of the taskforce. The company will also participate in the Corporate Fellowship Program for Caregivers, launched as part of the Hiring Our Heroes Corporate Fellowship Program. Through this pilot program, Booz Allen will recruit and deploy three caregiver corporate fellows for six-week paid fellowships in their offices in San Antonio, Texas and San Diego. For questions or more information about the EDF-Booz Allen partnership or Community Caregiver Map contact Rashi Romanoff at Rashi@elizabethdolefoundation.org.
