Statement of Senator Elizabeth Dole on Leadership Changes Within the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs

March 28, 2018

Senator Elizabeth Dole, founder of the Elizabeth Dole Foundation and advocate for military and veteran caregivers, released the following statement today following the departure of Dr. David J. Shulkin as Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs:

“The Elizabeth Dole Foundation would like to thank Secretary Shulkin for his outstanding service at the Department of Veterans Affairs and his steadfast commitment to improving the lives of military and veteran caregivers, the 5.5 million hidden heroes who perform billions of dollars a year in uncompensated care. We thank Dr. Shulkin for his strong support for these hidden heroes during his tenure at the VA.”

“We fully expect that the great progress that has been made for military and veteran caregivers will continue under the new Secretary. We look forward to our continued partnership with the VA and Admiral Ronny L. Jackson, MD, once confirmed by the Senate, to provide essential support and resources to caregivers of all eras serving as a lifeline to our wounded warriors.”
