Statement of Senator Elizabeth Dole on Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary David Shulkin
STATEMENT OF SENATOR ELIZABETH DOLE ON DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS SECRETARY DAVID SHULKIN
Senator Elizabeth Dole, founder of the Elizabeth Dole Foundation and advocate for military and veteran caregivers, released the following statement today on behalf of the Foundation, regarding the VA Office of Inspector General Report:
“Secretary Shulkin recently acknowledged that mistakes were made with respect to the use of travel funds, and has since apologized and committed to addressing the issues highlighted in the VA Inspector General report. It is now time to move forward. Secretary Shulkin has provided stellar and steady leadership of the VA during a time of great progress, cooperation, and historic reform, all benefiting American’s veterans and their families. The Secretary has been a steadfast ally for military and veteran caregivers, the 5.5 million “hidden heroes” who perform billions of dollars a year in uncompensated care, often at the expense of their own wellbeing. Caregivers are a lifeline for our wounded warriors, and Secretary Shulkin has demonstrated time and time again his commitment to these hidden heroes. We are grateful for his support and guidance. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with the Secretary and the VA.”
